Bringing Back the Creativity
There are so many wonderful things about owning a business. That’s a whole post in itself, for a different time.
But one of the things Bryan and I have talked about – him, very strongly in fact – was that after I sold my company, I would take some time to rekindle my creative juices. Particularly in the areas pottery and photography.
I have been taking pottery classes, at the same studio, since Declan was still in diapers. In fact, he eventually starting coming with me – and all the gals there know him almost as well as they know me.
However, over the past few years, my pottery time has fell off. Been pushed aside. Overpowered by everything else going on.
That is ending very soon!
The owners of my studio and I have made a pact. I come and stick my hands in clay with them during the day, bring my (new! shiny! just ordered last night!) laptop into the studio to work when needed, and I will help them out with graphic design and social media stuff.
PERFECT.
I can’t wait to get back to making more of these:
As for photography… clearly it was WAY too important to me to abandon entirely. But it has been ignored, that’s for sure. It knocks at my brain during the night when I dream, reminding me how much I have not captured in the past few years. You are duly warned.

All proceeds from the sales benefit March of Dimes in memory of James and Jake Fletcher. This means a lot to me personally, because Declan was a 32 week preemie who spent 6 long weeks in the NICU himself.

Well, I’m supposed to be a writer, but I find myself enjoying photography just as much lately! It’s probably my one “artistic” outlet. I would be atrocious in a pottery class. Your work is gorgeous, though!
At work, I’m trying to delegate (to a human or computer, e.g. reporting) or reduce my left brain activities so I can put more energy into more right brained activities.
Away from work, I cook, knit, write, and just generally craft. I am trying to cook more in general just because of the health (to me and my wallet!) benefits, but I’m also trying to put more of my creative self into my cooking. I’ve definitely been knitting a lot more. That’s incredibly satisfying. I’ve been writing more, although I’ve been neglecting my blog. I have a couple of cookbooks, a novel, and a non-fiction book in progress. The non-fiction book is the least creative, but it’s getting the most traction. I also want to dig into embroidery and pottery. I’ve dabbled in both and loved it 🙂

I’m thinking that pottery studio must be *calling* you if your work is that gorgeous. Awesome. Looking forward to seeing what unfolds when you give yourself space to indulge your creativity!
I’m with you on the photography thing. Sometimes I forget how much I love doing it until I’m doing it!
Also, I really love tinkering around with the design of my blog. Does that sound geeky? It’s so true, though. I could spend hours (and have) in my CSS adjusting spacing and fonts. HOURS.
I dabble in reporting for a local website. I love taking pictures and recently attended a wedding in savannah, ga ( my birthplace)! Talk about a beautiful backdrop….oh my gosh, the food, people, architecture and landscape are to die for!
I’ve always wanted to try my hand at making some pottery. I’ve only painted it (I used to work at one of those you-paint-it/we-fire-it pottery places in college).
As for me- I enjoy making jewelry, making things out of felt (pins, ornaments, etc), writing poetry, and making cards.
