Muppet Night : Founding Members

It started simple enough. An argument over which Muppet movie is the best ever. The Great Muppet Caper? The Muppet Christmas Carol? Muppets Take Manhattan? It was heated. Voices raised.

And then I noticed that all seasons of the original Muppet Show was on Netflix – and #MuppetNight was born.

Eight friends + one kid gathered at my house. We watched, and watched and WATCHED. (And drank a bit too). And it was AWESOME.

It’s turned into a THING.

We now get together on a regular basis to watch old episodes, the freaky off-shoot stuff like Storyteller, and YOU KNOW we’ll be gathering for The Muppet Christmas Carol during the holidays.

That was MY pick for best movie, by the way.

As Jyl pointed out the other day, we’ve even assigned characters from the Muppets to ourselves.

I can’t believe I never saw it before, But I AM SOOOOOOOO FOZZIE.

Bryan disputes it, he wants to be Rowlf, but he OOZES Kermit.

And my friend Monika, the local music queen, is SO JANICE.

Andy, from Flobots + Bop Skizzum, and who started in bands when he was 15, is OF COURSE Dr. Teeth.

My personal faves are LeVar and Jon as Waldorf and Statler, since they just sit back and made cynical, hilarious comments all night.

Which begs the question, which Muppet character at YOU?

Also. We have been bringing the fun to Twitter. So it you see us goofing with the #muppetnight hashtag, please join in and chat. I think our next gathering will be in late September.

One last thing. We are not connected to anything official Muppets in any way. Just friends, wine and a good time with good entertainment. Wakka wakka.

Although there was some debate about whether Sesame Street characters are allowed (technically, they ARE muppets), I still maintain that I am mostly Grover, with a splash of Elmo’s enthusiasm thrown in when I’m doing storytime.

For the record – Muppet Treasure Island is the best Muppet movie.

I agree with you. Muppet Christmas Carol all the way!

I’m not sure which muppet I am… but I do know that the Great Muppet Caper is the best of the movies. Although I do love me some John Denver and the Muppets. So many wonderful choices!

I knew we could be friends when I saw this. I adore anyone who also adores the Muppets.

Wow, I will have to give this some serious thought.
