Airborne Toxic Event - Denver Photos

Airborne Toxic Event at Ogden Theatre

“Changing” from The Airborne Toxic Event‘s 2011 album “All At Once” ranks up there as one of my very favorite songs but I had never seen the band live before. Mikel Jollett and his crew recently played a two-night stint at Denver’s Ogden Theatre, so I jumped on the chance to photograph them. I was thrilled to discover that they are one of one of those bands who are actually *better* live than recorded (probably why they sold out two nights in a row).

Anna Bulbrook is a rock goddess, wailing on her viola while stomping around in seriously tall high heels. Daren Taylor looked like a fallen angel on the drums with a huge pair of wings spread the entire length of the stage behind him. Steven Chen affected a somewhat bored demeanor while still jumping around on his guitar (always a blessing for concert photographers). Newcomer Adrian Rodriguez seemed pretty damn happy to be there, from what I could see under his hair.

The thing is, if you listen to Airborne Toxic Event lyrics, you know they are a literary band. Wicked smart and thoughtful. If you see them live, you discover they are a very talented group of musicians who absolutely dominate the stage.
