Tabacon Hot Springs Resort - Arenal Costa Rica

Tabacon Resort in Arenal, Costa Rica

Note: A portion of our stay was provided by Tabacon Resort. However, all words and photos in this review are mine.

This fall, I was able to go back to Costa Rica for my second time and bring the boys for their first time. I knew for sure I wanted to bring them to Tabacon Resort in La Fortuna, near the Arenal Volcano. They have their own hot springs resort right across the street – which is included in your stay. People not staying at the hotel can visit with a day pass for $85 USD (which includes a meal) per person… but you can imagine how having free access included is a major plus to staying at Tabacon Resort.

But it’s definitely not the only plus. This five-star hotel does not disappoint. When you arrive, you are greeted by friendly staff and a fruity, refreshing drink. The grounds are lush, just like it should be when you are nestled in a rainforest.

Tabacon has been doing renovations, and our room had a gorgeous modern feel that somehow still fits in with all the flora.

Other amenities included (that frankly I expect, but should be mentioned): air conditioning, WiFi, flat screen TVs, and an in-room safe. There is also a prompt and friendly shuttle service for anywhere on property, or over to the hot springs.

On-resort there is one main restaurant, Los Tucanes. (There is also a buffet restaurant and a pool bar at the hot springs). Los Tucanes has a large breakfast buffet in the mornings, with an overlook of a lovely pool with waterfall – plus a view of the volcano. In the evening, the restaurant is more a formal, sit-down affair. We had incredible service and food – but it wasn’t cheap.

One of the charms of staying in a rainforest is… the forest. So that means lovely flowers, and some critters!

Prices per night at Tabacon range from $225-$450 per night depending on room size and time of year. When we visited last year, we got a great deal for going off season.

Tabacon has been (both times) exactly what I expected. A luxurious gem in the middle of Costa Rica. I can’t wait to visit again and again.
