One thing I love about Denver Comic Con is how everyone shows up – every type of person – and everyone has fun. This year was no exception, with attendance rates approaching 115,000 at early estimates. Pop Culture Classroom, which puts on the event, is a Denver-based education nonprofit that says its mission is “to ignite a love of learning, increase literacy, celebrate diversity and build community through the tools of popular culture and self-expression.”

That is exactly what we saw at Comic Con.

My son, who is a teenager now and into art, was enthralled by the Copic Marker training sessions. My husband, who is a kid at heart, loved all the stories and characters like Monster Scouts from vendors like Steam Crow and the educational sessions designed to help creators bring their own stories to life.

I just enjoyed the scene. Taking photos of people at Comic Con is such a pleasure, because people are ready to pose for you at any moment. I often try to sneak my photos though, to catch the sense of wonder going on all around me.

The trends in costumes I saw this year were lots of Harley Quinn, Doctor Who, and of course, Star Wars The Force Awakens characters.

I know! She was so cute and creative. And I also love the lady with the BB8 dress.

We are definitely going to Comic Con next year – that looks like a blast. I think my kids will finally be old enough.
