Depeche Mode - Concert Photos - Denver Pepsi Center 2017

Depeche Mode at Denver’s Pepsi Center

In the week prior to Depeche Mode’s return to Denver, I got very sentimental on Facebook. This was the band I had seen more often in my lifetime and still listen to at least once a week.

“I worked at the mall record store in high school, mainly to fund cassette tapes and concert tickets. In 1987, I bought Music For The Masses on release day and listened to it all the way home from Annapolis. There was a huge electrical storm in the air that night, with lots of lightning, but it was still warm enough to have all the windows of the car open.

I think about that moment often. I know it sounds silly, but it was perfect freedom. Driving at night, with nature raging all around, my music playing, that I chose and earned myself…

Whenever I get a sense of abandon, I am right back there in my little yellow car with “Never Let Me Down Again” blasting as loud as that little radio would go.”

I wasn’t the only one feeling nostalgic as the group splashed into the Pepsi Center. This is one of Denver’s biggest venues and not only was the place packed, but every person was singing every word. The setlist (below) was a nice mix of old and new, but I’m sure they’ll never please everyone with such an immense catalog for the band to choose from. Personally, I missed “People Are People” and “Strangelove,” but I’ll admit that I held my friend Jenny’s hand and we both shed a tear during “Question of Lust.”

I was struck by the huge production value on this tour – the screen behind Depeche Mode went all the way up to the ceiling and had a stage for Dave Gahan to sing from as well. All of the guys were dripping with sweat from the first song; there was no phoning it in… a complete balls out performance. Not to mention: DAMNNNN, Dave can still belt it out.

Somehow, with very little chatter and lots of great music, Depeche Mode managed to remind me of being a teenager and make me fall in love with them all over again.

Denver was only the second stop on their Global Spirit Tour. Who wants to get on a plane with me and follow Depeche Mode around the world?

Jesus, Aimee. I’m getting emotional over here.

These are incredibly striking photos. I admire all of your work, but I kind of feel like I need to be alone with these. Not in a sex-ay kind of way, but in a teen-girl-sobbing-in-her-bedroom kind of way.

    Thank you.

My favorite pic of this set is probably the silhouette of Andy, the 2nd pic of the post. 🙂 2nd fave is probably #23, the bright one of Dave. And #3, Martin with the star guitar. 🙂

But you’ve got a lot of great ones here, I know this was a special show for you to capture and I’m so happy that you got the opportunity. 🙂

  3. Dylin Graham

Would you mind if I take copies of your photos?

    • Aimee Giese

      Hi Dylin,

I own the copyright on my photos and due to image rights of the bands, I can’t sell them.

I’m sorry I can’t help you, but thanks so much for your interest!

      Best,
      Aimee
