I just returned from Mexico and it's exactly what I needed. Rest, relaxation, sun, great food, drink and, most importantly, friends. The lovely Andrea was about to turn 40 years old and had a terrific idea. "How about I gather as many gals as possible from around the world to a beautiful beach?" I had been to Tulum several times before and it's one of my favorite places in the world - and Andrea is one of my favorite people in the world - so, of course, the answer was a resounding yes. Lucky for us, Andrea did the legwork for the trip and found our hotel in Mexico and took care of the logistics. We stayed at the gorgeous La Zebra, about 20 minutes from the ruins. It's a small luxury hotel and restaurant right on the beach, where rooms have splash pools and beautiful views. (I spent most of the day alternating between the pool and the ocean ... my idea of heaven.)
We have vacationed in Mexico many times; we love the Cancun and the Yucatan Peninsula. Especially for us here in Denver, it's such a quick flight - we try and go as often as we can. This April, I will turn 45 and this May, we will celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary. Both of those numbers make me feel very old. Although with age comes wisdom, right? I loved our small wedding here in Colorado, surrounded by family and friends... but if I could do it over, one idea that would be high on my list? Getting everyone to meet us in Mexico. My friends at Palace Resorts and Weddings by Funjet understand how that might seem daunting, and are having a fabulous contest right now (valued at more than $40,000!) where the winners will have their dream wedding at the amazing Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort - including photos, flights for up to 8 guests, luxe accommodations, $1,500 in credits and more.
When we visited Puerto Vallarta, I knew there was one place we had to go as a day-trip. I had seen all these outrageous photos on Pinterest of somewhere called Hidden Beach, and to be honest, I didn't even believe it actually existed. But it does. And is amazing. This secret, special place is located within the Marietas Islands, about an hour's boat ride from Puerto Vallarta. We were staying on the Riveria Nayarit side of Banderas Bay, which is much closer.
We are big fans of the Caribbean. We especially love Mexico because it is such a quick, direct flight from Denver. In fact, it is faster for us to the get there than it is for us to fly back east. I tend to get stir crazy in the winter, and we haven't been able to travel much for the past few years (while I was sick and we were getting back on our feet work-wise).
It's been a rough week. My mom had her heart surgery and while she's holding her own; it's not an easy thing to recover from. Every day there have been emails and phone calls discussing every aspect of her recovery, and she remains in the…
