Photos and Signs from Women’s March Denver

Today, people from all over the world gathered in their cities in a show of solidarity for equal rights. It was called the “Women’s March,” but in my opinion, it should have been the “People’s March,” because it put on display all the issues we have been wrestling with since Donald Trump was elected president (and before). Here in Denver, they were expecting 40,000 people and that number exploded to well over 100,000, with some estimates as high as 200,000.

We found it to be a bit overwhelming, of course, with all those people – but the atmosphere was all about love. A huge variety of signs, as you will see in the gallery below, with creative flair and humor. Today was so uplifting for us! We sincerely thank the organizers, the police, the city of Denver and everyone who made the Women’s March possible. Continue reading…

Hometown For The Holidays: Photos of Iolite & Redlands

Obviously, I love local Denver music, and especially the celebration that is Hometown For The Holidays. KTCL Channel 93.3 hosts an annual contest that encourages submissions from Colorado bands, who are then narrowed down to ten finalists for us to choose from. The top three play a concert together at Summit Music Hall and two different prizes are announced. There is the Performance Award – gauged by applause – which was narrowly won by former finalists Pandas & People. (Seriously, Nerf had to use a noise-measuring app to figure it out.)

Then there is the Song Contest winner, who will open next year’s Not So Silent Night. Redlands took that prize for their song “Big Talk” and have had a steady stream of shows since then (Next up: February 4th with Shatterproof).

Outlook Lodge: Mountain Resort Near Colorado Springs

Right before Christmas, we were invited down to Outlook Lodge, a quaint getaway near Colorado Springs. The building itself has been there since 1889 but was completely renovated with modern upgrades that still reflect its original character.

Think rich wood, luxurious fabrics and pine trees all around as you settle in with some wine.

The Palm Denver Brunch + Bus for Broncos Games (Free Valet!)

OK, yeah, so… 2016 doesn’t seem like the Broncos’ year. But they are rebuilding, right? Not that I even know what I am talking about since I an about as unknowledgeable about sports as they come.

But one thing I *do* know about: BRUNCH! It’s pretty much my favorite thing if you follow our Swarm check-ins.

We were thrilled when The Palm Denver invited us to check out their Broncos brunch recently, and ride the football bus over to the game. Of course, it happened to be the coldest day of the year so far, but we didn’t mind. We’d sampled the Bloody Mary bar and dressed warm – plus the atmosphere on the bus was cozy.

Not So Silent Night Denver – KTCL Channel 93.3’s End of Year Concert

Every year, Denver’s alternative station, KTCL Channel 93.3, throws a holiday party for their fans. It’s called Not So Silent Night, and every year gets more crazy. The 2016 lineup included 888, Jr Jr, The Strumbellas, Kaleo and Empire of The Sun. All of which put on great sets, but I would have to say my favorites were openers 888 and headliners Empire of The Sun.

888

Denver band 888 won last year’s Hometown For The Holidays contest, and the biggest prize from that is opening next year’s NSSN. But this band didn’t sit around waiting for Christmas. They have been touring just about everywhere and their hit song, “Critical Mistakes” has racked up over 2.2 million listens on Spotify. I can’t wait to see what they are up to for 2017.
