Hometown For The Holidays Photos 2017 #HTFTH

Yet again, KTCL Channel 93.3's Hometown For The Holidays concert pretty much was the Christmas party for our Denver music scene. The three finalists (Iolite, VYNYL and Wildermiss) from the annual song contest performed, and every single one killed it. But in addition to the performances, many local musicians showed up to cheer on and hang out. I have no idea how Nerf was able to tell the difference in the crowd (he actually used an app to measure the noise level and I know it was really close) ... but in the end, the "live crowd fave" was Wildermiss, who walked away with the top prize from the music survey votes too. In my opinion, any of the three could have won - or any of the top ten, for that matter. 2017 was stellar for Denver bands. Congrats to everyone involved, and here's to another great year!

Too Many Humans - Denver Band

Too Many Humans + CITRA at Lost Lake Lounge in Denver

I have known Mark from Too Many Humans for quite a while. I photographed his previous band, Wiredogs, many times. Recently I finally got to shoot Too Many Humans - and lucky for me, CITRA was the opener. The place was Denver's Lost Lake Lounge (not to be confused with the Lost Lake Festival in Phoenix that I recently covered). Lost Lake is one of my favorite music venues in Denver - but it's dark and small. Which makes for a great show - and tough photography. No matter for bands like TMH and CITRA. They had the whole place raging along with them. Be sure to check out Too Many Humans' excellent new album You're On Your Own. Also, CITRA has their own album release party on February 3rd at an equally small, dark and fun Denver venue, Hi-Dive on South Broadway.

Hometown For The Holidays Top Ten - Channel 93.3 Song Contest Denver

Channel 93.3 Top Ten Hometown For The Holidays (HTFTH) 2017

Have you heard about the Hometown For The Holidays song contest from KTCL Channel 93.3? Every year, our local DJs like Alf and Nerf are sent hundreds of entries and then a panel of local music peeps vote anonymously to help narrow down the entries. The result is ten songs that are played on air for a week and then voted on by any music nerd who has signed up for the KTCL surveys. The prize? Personally, I think it's the radio airplay - but the band that comes out on top plays at next year's Westword Music Showcase and Not So Silent Night - as well as winning valuable studio time in Colorado's famous Blasting Room. Photos from Denver Zombie Crawl 2017: Blood and Clowns

Denver Zombie Crawl returned to the Mile High City with a vengeance this year. Sure, since the date for the event was a bit earlier than normal there was perhaps a bit lighter attendance (not much), but our Colorado undead were no less enthusiastic. In fact, I would say the commitment to blood was over the top in 2017. Not surprisingly, the costume we saw the most often was CLOWNS ... and given my great fear of them, I hid behind my camera all day. Besides the clowns, I love how Zombie Crawls brings all the Denverites out. It's such a diverse event that you can adapt for yourself. We go with our best friends and the kids, but later in the night head out adults-only for the after-parties. It's an awesome Colorado event that has something for everyone.
