Karaoke Tips: Feel Comfortable Singing Your Heart Out

Note: Our evening out was provided by Voicebox RiNo. All words mine.
Do you get intimidated by the idea of karaoke? I sure do. Recently, however, Voicebox Karaoke in RiNo asked me to bring a group of friends over and I realized it's not as hard as it seems. Yup, I am still preeeetty terrible at it, but hanging out with your friends and *only* your friends sure made the experience much more comfortable. Here are some tips that helped us have more fun! One Flew West - denver band concert photos at Bluebird Theater

One Flew West CD-Release Show at Bluebird Denver

Denver band One Flew West has been around for several years now, and it's always awesome to see them live in concert. They were at the Bluebird Theater for the release of their new EP Trial and Error last week and the place was packed. Fellow Coloradans Silver & Gold and Compass & Cavern opened the night. The guys played a wide variety of tunes - including songs from the new EP (of course), older faves like "Kind of Love" and "Had It All," as well as a new one that lead singer Linden Jackson had written only a few days before. Videos are something this band is really good at - so be sure to check out their YouTube Channel. Especially since new videos of songs from the show are due out very soon. It's been amazing to watch One Flew West grow as a band. I am lucky to have photographed them several times before, but this was their first headlining show at the iconic east Colfax venue. Based on how much ass was kicked, I know there will be many more.

Ian Mahan - Denver Concert Photos

Singer/Songwriter Ian Mahan at Lost Lake Denver

I have seen Ian Mahan perform live a few times but hadn't had a chance to photograph him until his show last week at Lost Lake Lounge. Ian recently released a new single, "Breakaway," but was also pretty prolific in 2017 with two EPs. He writes some great songs, but is also fun to see live. It's usually a stripped down concert, which IMO shows off his songs best. Although he's the kind of songwriter that it would be cool to see a full orchestra behind him too. (Maybe later in 2018???) Either way, keep an eye on Ian Mahan and get out to see him when you can. Ian Mahan Photos - Denver Singer Songwriter

My Body Sings Electric 10th Anniversary with Slow Caves + Modern Suspects

Ten years is a long time for anything - especially a band. My Body Sings Electric celebrated a decade together this month with a series of shows up and down the front range, including Denver's Marquis Theater. They shared the festivities with Slow Caves and Modern Suspects, who made the night three times as fun. We've been friends with MBSE almost as long as they have been a band, so there was no way we were missing this show. I have talked about them so often, you'd think this blog was solely about them. But perhaps my favorite was this interview with Jason from a few years ago, where we find out how stinky Jeff is and that Brandon is missing some socks. Congratulations guys, on ten years - and here is to ten more!  ❤️

Tulum Mexico Luxury Hotel

Tulum Mexico Hotel – La Zebra: Luxury in the Heat

I just returned from Mexico and it's exactly what I needed. Rest, relaxation, sun, great food, drink and, most importantly, friends. The lovely Andrea was about to turn 40 years old and had a terrific idea. "How about I gather as many gals as possible from around the world to a beautiful beach?" I had been to Tulum several times before and it's one of my favorite places in the world - and Andrea is one of my favorite people in the world - so, of course, the answer was a resounding yes. Lucky for us, Andrea did the legwork for the trip and found our hotel in Mexico and took care of the logistics. We stayed at the gorgeous La Zebra, about 20 minutes from the ruins. It's a small luxury hotel and restaurant right on the beach, where rooms have splash pools and beautiful views. (I spent most of the day alternating between the pool and the ocean ... my idea of heaven.)
