I love Christmas music, and I have been building my main playlist for years. It's now nearly 375 songs or almost 22 hours. For 2017, I promise to get it over a day's worth! For 2016, I spent some time splitting out the styles, so now I have an "Upbeat Christmas" and a "Pretty Christmas" playlist. I was joking on Twitter that I put a lot of artists in my Christmas playlists that I don't normally listen to - but I draw the line at Jimmy Buffett. Besides him, who am I missing?
It's that time of year again! We are close to Halloween, which means Zombie Crawl takes over Denver's 16th Street Mall with some really outrageously creepy costumes. Given the state of our election, I expected an onslaught of Trumps, but only saw a few and they always had a Hillary on their arm. The zombie zeitgeist this year was full-on Day of the Dead, with multiple examples up and down the mall. It's the 11th anniversary of Denver Zombie Crawl and this year it also fell squarely on founder Danny Newman's birthday. Personally, I can't think of a better present than tens of thousands of costumed creatures taking over downtown.
I used to be so good at holiday cards, but seeing as I immediately upload every photo I have all year long... consider this post my Christmas card to you all. A collection of very funny people on Twitter and their hilarious tweets from this time of year. Merry Christmas!
Many people know I just moved to Spotify from Rdio, and imported a ton of playlists on the way. I have been cultivating my Christmas music for years now, so I was glad to see almost all the songs came over and I've spent the past few weeks polishing it up and adding new tunes from 2015. Clearly, I love the holidays, and holiday music! I am not bashful about how much I love my holiday music playlist, either.
I say this all the time... but Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It's all about love and food, two of the best things in the world. And there used to be a time when I spent a big chunk of the long weekend addressing our Christmas cards and getting them ready to mail. I fell off that tradition over the past few years, but Zazzle is helping me get my mojo back. Have you heard of Zazzle? In general, they allow you to created personalized gifts from photos. Specifically, they have really lovely options for holiday cards. They have given me $150 to spend at their store and actually get some cards out this year. My mother will be utterly thrilled.
But even better, they are letting me pass along the same gift to you!
I know it's a little early to think about Christmas, but it's a great time to win a giveaway to get Christmas presents to give away! Making me feel super old, this year is the 30th anniversary of the book Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg. I knew of this author well before the movies, because my illustration teacher in college was a deep admirer. Which, if you do the math, puts us right in the era of Polar Express and Jumanji. The 30th anniversary edition of The Polar Express reveals a new jacket design and expanded interior layout, includes a letter from Van Allsburg, downloadable audio read by Liam Neeson, plus a golden keepsake ornament.
I have three of these to giveaway, so enter via the Rafflecopter below!
It's that time of year again! October! Halloween! Pumpkin Spice Latte! All of these things mean something else in Denver: ZOMBIE CRAWL. I am proud to say the organizer, Danny Newman, is a friend and I sincerely congratulate him and all his crew on TEN YEARS on bringing mayhem to the 16th Street Mall. In 2015, there were well over 40,000 zombies dragging themselves from one side of downtown Denver to the other. FOOOOUURTY THOOOUUUSAND. That's a lot of pretend dead people. It's always one of our favorite events of the year, and we're already looking forward for 2016! P.S. As always, there are some graphic costumes and makeup in these photos.
