President Trump

I can’t believe I am even typing those words. What started out as a joke on a gold elevator will be, in about 15 minutes, our commander and chief.

I am not going into the reasons he is unqualified; there are many. Nor I am going into all the bad things that can happen to our country; there are many.

MANY.

I am just shaking in fear right now, which is exactly what he wants. He wants us to feel intimidated and helpless.

So he can bulldoze over this country for his personal gain, just like he always does.

When George W. Bush was elected, I was worried. He turned into one of the worst presidents we have ever had, but right now – I would take GW back in a heartbeat compared to the hornet’s nest in DC. And it’s not just Trump. It’s also the GOP who has obstructed Obama for eight years and now think they have a free pass.

Guess what? NO. Continue reading…

Hometown For The Holidays: Photos of Iolite & Redlands

Obviously, I love local Denver music, and especially the celebration that is Hometown For The Holidays. KTCL Channel 93.3 hosts an annual contest that encourages submissions from Colorado bands, who are then narrowed down to ten finalists for us to choose from. The top three play a concert together at Summit Music Hall and two different prizes are announced. There is the Performance Award – gauged by applause – which was narrowly won by former finalists Pandas & People. (Seriously, Nerf had to use a noise-measuring app to figure it out.)

Then there is the Song Contest winner, who will open next year’s Not So Silent Night. Redlands took that prize for their song “Big Talk” and have had a steady stream of shows since then (Next up: February 4th with Shatterproof).

Outlook Lodge: Mountain Resort Near Colorado Springs

Right before Christmas, we were invited down to Outlook Lodge, a quaint getaway near Colorado Springs. The building itself has been there since 1889 but was completely renovated with modern upgrades that still reflect its original character.

Think rich wood, luxurious fabrics and pine trees all around as you settle in with some wine.

Alice In Winterland: Photos of Fitz And The Tantrums & Gavin DeGraw

I would say that Fitz and The Tantrums are becoming my muse, but if you look at any concert photo of them – it’s not me, it’s them. They are one the most photogenic and fun bands on the planet. Which is why I was absolutely thrilled they were headlining Denver’s Alice in Winterland concert this year!

Joining FATT was Gavin DeDraw, who I had never seen live before. He primarily stayed in front of his instrument, which is where you want him. Great voice, great piano player.

This was my fourth time seeing Fitz and The Tantrums, and my second Alice in Winterland… I am of the opinion that both are just getting better and better. Can’t wait to see what Alice 105.9 has in store for 2017!

Sara Watkins & River Whyless Give Beautiful Performance at Larimer Lounge

Sara Watkins was (and is) an original member of the band Nickel Creek, but has released several solo albums over the years. Her latest, Young In All The Wrong Ways, really touched me and I listened to it on repeat many a day last year. Thus, I jumped at the chance to see her live at Larimer Lounge in Denver – only to discover that her voice is even better live than on her records. I knew that she played fiddle, but that was also mesmerizing to watch.

Extra bonus that night? River Whyless was the opening band – another group I adore.
