I think we made the right move.

I am home today because Declan’s school is closed and we had parent teacher conferences.

In a nutshell, he is doing awesome and she wanted to start putting him in the Kindergarten class one day a week after Xmas to test the waters. She is trying to find a balance between not letting him get bored academically but not overwhelming him emotionally – which is exactly the tone we’d like to see. She said he is still nervous and shy in class, but has blossomed much quicker than she expected him to given where he was at the beginning of the school year.

We also addressed the communication issues we have been having with her and I feel better. She gave me her direct phone number plus email address. Bryan said, “Are you sure you want to do that???”

We have also been put forth as Room Parents, so hopefully we can be part of the solution. I also offered her our tech savviness, where we could manage a class website for her and post announcements and notifications, etc. Dumb move, I know.

I was so nervous about moving Declan to the elementary school Pre-K, and even though there are things I may not like about the system, given the rapid academic growth he has had over the past two months and all the new friends and social interactions he has, I feel like we did OK.
