I Write The Whaaah?

The other night when Jeff and Danielle came to dinner I had iTunes playing on Party Shuffle mode (because, at least according to Declan – Jeff and Danielle coming over is nothing if not a party!). And during Panic! At The Disco‘s song “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” Danielle suddenly said, “What is this song about anyway? Is he the groom and found his bride with someone? Or is he the guy with the bride?” Blink. Blink. Blink. That song is about a wedding?!? I was impressed she got past the speed mumble singing to even get that much.

We looked up the lyrics and got no further.

Oh, well imagine; as I’m pacing the pews in a church corridor,
and I can’t help but to hear, no I can’t help but to hear an exchanging of words.
“What a beautiful wedding!, What a beautiful wedding!” says a bridesmaid to a waiter.
“Ah yes, but what a shame, what a shame, the poor groom’s bride is a whore.”

I chimed in with a “Haven’t you people ever heard of closing the god damn door?!”
No, it’s much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality.

Well in fact, well I’ll look at it this way, I mean technically our marriage is saved
Well this calls for, a toast so, pour the champagne,

Well this calls for a toast, so pour the champagne, pour the champagne.

What the heck is that? Any clues? Our marriage is saved, but someone forgot to close the door? Or maybe it’s one of those zen things: one must not know, one must only feel. The speed mumbling that is.

For as long as I have heard this song, then seen the video (because you know how much I like my MTV and VH1), I still have no clue. Nevertheless, I like the song because it is good for running.

Hey, I just noticed that this post brought my first visitor from Germany… someone searching for Panic! at the Disco and probably heartily disappointed that I didn’t know what the song meant either.

    But – WILLKOMMEN!
