A Word on Mommy Blogging
Christina of A Mommy Story wrote a very good post last week entitled “The War Against Mom Bloggers” Go check it out. I am trying to stay out of the personal mudslinging that seems to be going on extraneously of Christina’s sentiments since I am kinda clueless in general…
But I do have three additional comments:
1.) There are good blogs and bad blogs out there of every variety. I have to admit sometimes it surprises me too, the ones that get popular and are pretty much utter crap. But hey, if you look at TV listings on any given night (my beloved American Idol included) or the Billboard chart… it’s not that surprising that some crap rises to the top just as much as the cream. So, if the blogosphere is pissed that some crappy mom blogs have “made it” – they need to take a Xanax or they will have a premature heart attack before they are 50. There are some damn good writers out there, too.
2.) And it really doesn’t matter who is good, bad or anywhere in between… Christina covered this territory but I wanted to reaffirm that we all have different reasons to blog – and for people to bash those reasons…Well. That’s just sad. And if you don’t like us… don’t. read. us.
3.) And while I happily call myself a Mom Blogger, I still think it’s more of a Slice of Life. This blog is not entirely ruled by Declan, his foibles, his triumphs and the fact that the kid is still in Pull-ups at night when he is 4.5 years old (although I really, really, really wish we could ditch those damn Pull-ups). Sure, he is the guiding thread – but it’s about every facet of our life – just like many non-mom bloggers write about everything and anything. And that’s cool.
That’s what a blog is right? Anything you want it to be, including the kitchen sink.

You know, when you listed your playlist and sheepishly thanked us loyal readers, I meant to tell you that I like your blog for the same reason I like your approach to the “Mommy Blogging Mudslinging” (MBS). It is a slice of life, and not just a “my kid pooped 3 times today.” If I want to listen to that, I can just call dh more often during the day ;)! And, you’re a good writer, which makes reading it a joy!
Too much drama for me. I’m in the live and let live camp and camp of avoid all unnecessary confrontation. It may be a whimpy life, but it’s a good life.
As for the pull-ups at night, we’re there too and I don’t care except the expense drives me a little batty. My kids end up dry probably more than half the time, but I’m still not willing to forego the protection. You are a good writer, have an interesting perspective, and I enjoy your blog.
We were there, too, with the bedwetting. We woke him up in the middle of the night to go. He has been accident free for several months, thank goodness. The time will come!

Yes, yes, and yes!
There are as many types of mom blogs out there as there are types of moms, and trying to lump all of us into one category is just silly. Like you said, it’s a slice of life, and we all choose to focus on different parts of our lives.
