April Sadness

I don’t feel right going into my weekend recap without taking a moment to reflect on what happened at Virginia Tech yesterday.

When I boarded my plane to come home, I learned of the tragedy for the first time as I watched the screen in the back of the seat in front of me. I leaned my head forward and just rested it on my hands as the tears bubbled up behind my eyes. 32 people killed. That is inconceivable to me.

And personally, I don’t count the killer in the number dead. It has never sat right with me when the news media reported it that way.

This week is the anniversary of Columbine, which of course, is drawing comparisons across the board. And, living in Colorado plus knowing the uncle of a Columbine victim, Columbine certainly touches my heart every April.

April is special to me because it means Spring and my birthday… but it also brings remembrance of these poor young people, snuffed out so early and suddenly.

Our thoughts go out to them, their families and all the people of Virginia.

Amen. The sadness is palpable. My heart is most sad for the Columbine community, whose scabs are ripped off each year at this time and every time there’s an incident like this. I’m not sure there is such a thing as healing…
