I am allowed to make fun of Caroline from San Francisco because she is one of my most favorite people. And because she is so freaking cool there is usually nothing to make fun of.
Recently Caroline was asked to participate in a Columbia Sportswear insert for a Japanese lifestyle magazine called Madame Figaro Japon, which is (duh) printed almost entirely in, well, Japanese.
So, until a friend translated for her, Caroline had no idea what the article said. But she did know that the stylists on the set fell in love with the turquoise socks she was wearing and built her whole outfit around them, down to the bike. “WHY, oh WHY did I wear those socks that day?!?” she wrote to me – and I could almost hear Scarlett O’Hara in the background of the email.
If you are interested, here is what the article did say:
“Caroline was born in 1969. Her favorite color is pink. She likes to ride her bike around the town. She loves Church Street Apothecary (the store she’s in front of) because they have a lot of children’s stuff that inspires her for her line of children’s clothing made from vintage fabric. She also thought she would go down to Fisherman’s Wharf and try to catch some fish, or maybe attend a Gay Prep School Convention.”
OK, I added that last line myself.
