Tante Trina
The calls from Germany just keep coming. Today, we got the news that my great-great-aunt Tante Trina passed away. When I say great-great-aunt, she was the youngest sister in the line of 10 children where my great-grandmother was the oldest – making Trina and my grandmother fairly close in age.
She was 91 and suffering from Alzheimer’s and went peacefully, and I hate to say any death is a good death – but she certainly lived a long, full life.
The last time we saw her in person was when we visited Germany in 2000, and her Alzheimer’s was pretty advanced at that point, even. She did not remember my mother or my aunt very much… and me not at all.
I will tell you who made quite an impression on her, though… Bryan. She insisted that he take her hand wherever we walked, and called him what roughly translates to “Pretty Boy” in German slang.
I always knew she had good taste.

I’m sorry. I wish I could give you a hug but am glad she got to meet your pretty boy.

Altzheimers sucks. 🙁 My grandma is 91, and doing OK, but forgetting more and more. What a stupid disease.

Hoping your sweet memories are a comfort in your loss. And yes, there is a good death, the one the concludes a good life and no lingering regrets.
