Random Bits

Today was our date day for the Rockies game, and just as I was rushed through my work day, so shall I be rushed through my blog post. So here are just some miscellaneous nuggets.

=================

It was hotter than the sun today. OK, maybe not hotter than the the sun since the sun is about 10,000 degrees, but since this was our first summery day, it sure felt like it. Not that I am complaining! It’s just I’m a dipshit and bought tickets on the sunny side of the stadium. (But don’t worry! Little Miss Sun Protection wore tons of sunscreen!)

=================

The Tavern is colluding to make my life miserable!!! WHY, IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, MUST THE FAT TUESDAY DRINK MACHINE BE CONSTANTLY BROKEN? All I want is a frozen orange drink on a hot day when I have no rugrat around. Is that so much to ask?

=================

Speaking of rugrats, we caught up with the kids at the game. This is your brain on sugar, folks.

Bryan has developed this “thing.” I think I may have mentioned it before. He has this character that is a combination of Spinner, the semi-retarded ex-boxer from Death To Smoochy and the dude in the wheelchair from the BBC show Little Britain. No one gets it but me, and I think it is the FUNNIEST FUCKING THING ON THE PLANET. Especially after a few beers. “Yeah, I know.”

=================

And alas, after leading the whole game, the Rockies lost. But we still had a lovely time.

And a few beers.

=================

Congratulations to David Cook! I honestly didn’t care which one of them won, but he seems like a really awesome dude and I am more likely to buy his albums over Josh Groban David Archuleta’s, so all’s the better!

=================

OK, we need to talk. Does George Michael have AIDS? Because let’s be honest, he looked like absolute shit. When they started singing his songs, I literally was hitting Bryan on the arm and squealing. “George Michael’s there! George Michael’s there!” Words cannot express my love for Wham! and George Michael. And then he came out looking horrible, and WORSE, sounding horrible. I AM TOTALLY SERIOUS when I say I had tears in my eyes because I was so upset. And not that fake crap Paula was trying to push off on us. WHAT IS THE DEAL?

UPDATE: As you will see in the comments, I do NOT mean this to be a flippant “oh, George is gay, he must have AIDS” sort of deal. I regret posting it actually, but I won’t take it down because that wouldn’t be right either. I really mean the above as, SOMETHING is wrong with him and he looks like other people I have seen with AIDS, and I am WORRIED about him. I have heard NO rumors about any such thing.

=================

I talk about body image over at Mile High Mamas today. And it was a total coincidence that the lovely Sizzle wrote similarly this week as well. (Of course she wrote it better.) Either way, go over and read it and weigh in, or my editor Amber will kick my ass.

=================

OK, peeps. That is it for tonight. I have my first architectural photo shoot evah tomorrow. Wish me luck.

    I am glad he won only because it shows America actually has some taste. I sure hope he stays true to himself!

    I don’t know what is up with George Michael. I love him too. Maybe he is sick, not necessarily with AIDS, but maybe with something that is making him looked so aged and thin. Do you think we’d automatically go there with the AIDS because he has come out as gay and if he hadn’t maybe we would worry he had cancer of something? (Just wondering aloud.)

  2. Mr Lady

    Watching George right now, and THANKS FOR THE SPOILER ALERT. 😉

    He does look gray. And sounds tired. Hmmm? I might cry, too.

  3. Aimee Greeblemonkey

    OOPS MrLady! Well, it’s all over the news already, Miss Pacific time!

    And Sizzle, George did say at the end that he had a cold. I still don’t buy it. And I don’t mean to make grand aspersions like AIDS, but he looks worse than a cold. It could be the drug use too, I guess.

  4. Gretchen

    Good luck tomorrow – I’m sure your photo shoot will go great. It’s not like the buildings can move or anything…

    😉

  5. Kelley

    I am so glad that American Idol is OVER! Being in Australia I like don’t really care at all and looking forward to blogs and Twitter getting back to normal.

    Talking about poop and back fat and stupid people again.

  6. Catherine

    Sooo glad that the right David won.

    Best of luck on the photo shoot!

  7. Aimee Greeblemonkey

    Ack! Absolutely, MB. I was actually more worried because he really looked like several people I have seen with AIDS. It was a real, serious question, not a “he’s gay and he looks like shit, so of course he has AIDs” type of sarcastic comment. Now I kind of wish I hadn’t said it, but I was/am genuinely WORRIED.

  8. Aimee Greeblemonkey

    And also, I just realized, he probably would not be starting a big tour if he was sick in that serious of a way. Hopefully it’s just the drug use.

  9. zipper

    Moreso, the cotton candy photo is killing me.

  10. Aimee Greeblemonkey

    Crud, I meant to comment on Seal!

    That song is LITERALLY my most fave Seal song EVER! HOTNESS!!! I have to give Syesha props, they sounded awesome together. I really think that was my favorite joint performance.

    Glad you had fun at the game, and CUTE PHOTO!

  12. MB

    Sizzle – thanks for wondering aloud. I do think it’s one of those he-has-AIDS-because-he’s-gay things, even though I know Aimee would be mortified if she thought anyone took it that way. He could have anything. And he’s getting older. And he’s a known drug user.

    But this isn’t a gay post. 🙂

    I want video of Bryan doing that weird character. And then I want your laugh – after a few beers – on that same video!

    Okay! A RANDOM comment to random bits!

  13. Megan

    I am scared for GM too.

    And that is an adorable photo of Declan!

  14. Amber

    WHATEVER. 🙂

    And don’t forget that ass is 40 pounds lighter….

  15. Liz

    I’m so glad you posted about GM too! He looked so…. frail. And his voice was so…. frail, too. I still went and bought Faith on iTunes.: ) And seal!!!!! SWOOOON!!!

  16. anne

    He doesn’t look right. And he didn’t sound great either. He used to sing that song a lot better, and I’m sorry, but that was not the sound of a voice with just a cold (from one who has had to perform many times with a cold). No, that was different.

    I hope it’s not AIDS. And I know it wasn’t some hastily-drawn conclusion, Aimee, although my inexperienced eyes can’t tell what the problem is (just that there is one). I’m feebly hoping it was just the effects of bad lighting. Why wear sunglasses indoors, on stage?

    I used to have such a crush on him. Now I want to tuck him in and feed him chicken soup.

  17. Becky

    I agree with you about GM! Made me sad. I don’t think he’s sick just OLD! Which made ME feel old.
    My son said “Mom who is that?” and I said swooning “Oh he was really popular when I was younger and he just looks so… old.”

    Sigh.

    THANK GOD David Cook won! Now I don’t have to swear off watching Idol in January!

  18. Becky

    oh and p.s. I got my Greeblemix CD and I heart it so!

    Thanks!

    I am a HUGE fan of George Michael and have followed his career since the absolute beginning. HELL YEAH, GM’s appearance frightened me. Did you notice there were NO CLOSEUPS of his face whatsoever?

    I heard him on an interview in 2004 (a British program) say that he wouldn’t take and HIV test because his love (Anselmo Fellepa) died of AIDS and he was afraid that he’s infected too. He also has not been shy about his drug use, so that, no doubt, is contributing to his appearance.

    Look, I understand that people get freaked out about not being politically correct when mentioning AIDS and talking about a gay man in the same conversation, but knowing his history, that was my gut reaction, too.

    And honestly, my reaction was one of fear for him because he is such a talented man who seems to be so hell-bent on self-destruction.

  20. Mary Beth

    That was my first reaction to George Michael too, and not because of his preferences, but because he looks like others who have had AIDS. I saw him on Eli Stone earlier this year and he looked a lot better than that. I hope it’s just a cold – there will always be a soft spot in my heart for the Wham boys:)

  21. J at www.jellyjules.com

    Ugh. I’ve had a few friends die from AIDS, and what a horrid, horrid way to go. I hope it’s just drugs, though I’ve known people to die from that as well, and again, it’s horrid way to go. Sigh.

    Glad you had fun at the game, and I could not possibly care less about American Idol, and so I watched some Price is Right last night, and went to bed early. 🙂

  22. carrie

    Good luck with the photo shoot, I’m sure you’ll knock their socks off.

    And the George thing, I missed seeing the show – but I hope he’s fine. That was the first concert I ever went to (Faith Tour) and I still have the t-shirt. I big-time heart him.

  23. Aimee Greeblemonkey

    Here is the GM video if you haven’t seen it:

    I’m so glad DC won ’cause he seemed so “normal”… I mean, coming from the midwest how could he not be! LOL! Although DA has a great voice, I just think he’s got a great future and we’ll hear from him, too, but DC deserved the win.

    Okay, now… George. Oh, how I love George. Sad, but true. I was crushed when I found out that sweet, sexy man was gay. What a waste. I have a WHAM video (okay, it was my kids’) and he is sooo adorable in it. I’ve been so happy about his career lately – being such an integral part of “Eli Stone” and now Idol. Very cool. I, too, agree he looks a bit worn, but I saw him on Oprah awhile back and he looked about the same. Maybe he is just tired.

  25. bipolarlawyercook

    No, I thought that about GM, too. He does look sicker, more chronically, than a cold.

  26. mommypie

    I have to admit, the very same thought went through my mind when I saw GM. Whatever it is, I’d say he’s not well. 🙁
