The Parent Manual

Last night, at bedtime:

Bryan: [making weird faces at Declan]

Declan: Dada, stop that. You’re freaking me out.

Bryan: I am supposed to freak you out. It’s my job.

Declan: No, it’s not.

Bryan: Yes, it is.

Declan: No.

Bryan: Yes. It said so in the Parent Manual.

Declan: What?! A Parent Manual?

Bryan: Yes. There is a manual that we read before you were born and it told me what to do.

Declan: It told you to freak me out???

Bryan: Yes.

Declan: Why?

Bryan: Because it is fun and it makes us laugh.

Declan: What did it tell Mama to do?

Bryan: It told her to snuggle with you and give you hugs.

Declan: Well, I am going over here then.

[And then he climbs out of bed, walks over to me in the side chair and curls up into my lap.]

Can I just say I LOVE THE PARENT MANUAL???

    I agree with Kim!

    My dad convinced me “underwear” was a swear word when I was little…and my mom took me out of school on my birthday just for fun. The Parent Manual gets kudos from me…mostly because I’m a mom and those cuddles are the best (when I’m not making dinner).

    Awwww! Your family is adorable.

    It must be a dad/husband thing. My husband’s manual apparently told him to joke about killer clowns in one’s closet RIGHT AFTER our first haunted house visit, which featured (you guessed it) clowns. Much mom cuddling was required for many nights thereafter.
