My Finger Is Jammed – What Do I Do?

Yes, I know I should be writing about 4th of July (happy birthday America) and I also should be writing about our amazing weekend at Black Mountain Ranch (but I need to edit my hundreds of photos first).

Yes, we spent the past fours days at an actual Colorado dude ranch and it was awesome. Except for that split second, when I hoisted myself up on a horse for the very first time in my life, nearly pitched myself over the other side, and managed to jam my pinky finger in 3 places.

I swear I am cursed.

At first it just hurt, but I could move it fine, so we went ahead with the ride. Then of course, it swelled up like a balloon, and began to bruise along every joint.

One of the wranglers at the ranch said he would have to TRY to jam his finger in that many places.

The ranch took care of me, of course. They looked at it, taped it, iced it, advised me to possibly see a doctor when I got home.

But do I really want to go to the doctor today, on the 4th of July, when there are picnics and fireworks to be had???

So, hi there Internet! Any more advice for this incredibly accident prone person and her messed up finger?

I vote we all chip in and buy a plastic bubble for you to be in when you go on trips. I’ll even get them to design it with an opening just for your camera lens.

Arnica – cream externally and bitty pills that melt in your mouth. Fantastic for bruising, injury, and often prescribed by physicians ore and post surgery. Available at Vitamin Cottage, and I’m sure, Whole Foods. I keep it at home and work at all times.

Do exactly what you’re doing: buddy tape and ice. And maybe add an anti-inflammatory (Advil or Aleve) to reduce in the inflammation and for pain management.

Fortunately fingers heal pretty quickly. Most likely the doctor won’t do a whole lot else unless it’s broken and even then they might just put a small splint (like you can get at the grocery store) on it. I hope it heals quickly for you!

Yes, I agree – put it in a splint or tape it up. Use ice off and on. Take an anti-inflammatory. Go out and have fun with the 4th celebrations! There’s just nothing else that can really be done, even by a doctor. I hope it feels better soon!!!

Drink heavily…unless of course that is what caused the injury! Feel better!

I’m going to wrap you in pillows and make you live in a bubble
