What Was Your First Concert?

Tonight, we’re going to see our friends Bop Skizzum, Churchill and My Body Sings Electric play here in Denver. Seeing as it is summer and everyone in the world is traveling, or busy, or both, we couldn’t get a babysitter for the night. So Dex is coming with us.

I was just telling my friend Monika that I may draw the line in the sand and call this Declan’s “first” concert. Or was the Wiggles at 3 years old his first show? Maybe the Michael Franti kid’s matinee? The countless school fundraisers that featured bands? Outdoor concerts? I am really not sure which one to say “THE ONE” was.

For me and Bryan, it’s more clear-cut.

Him: SCOOORRPPPIIOOONNNNSSS!!!

Me: Paul Young.

Your age will determine if you know who that is.

By this video, you will know what decade it was when he was popular.

What about you?
What was YOUR first concert?
Your kids?

Jil – that is a good point. What one are your PROUD of?? lol.

I love hearing about everyone’s first concert!

My parents took me to see INXS when I was 3. Granted I do not remember this show, however I swear I remember the huge rain storm after the show (my parents will likely say this is a false memory…whatever).

The first show I remember going to (besides Sharon, Lois and Bram’s Elephant show)? It was Indigo Girls, at Red Rocks when I was 10. I fell asleep under the bleachers while my parents and the crowd swayed to the music.

I am happy that I will be there for Dex’s first official concert! This will be a night to remember.

First concert was a NKOTB unofficial concert – not from the real peeps unfortunately. None the less, it was awesome! Hope your hand heals soon. Take care 🙂

  5. mayberry

Cyndi Lauper! (Uh, that was mine, not my kids’).

  6. Mr Lady

    Scorps? EVERYTHING MAKES SENSE NOW.

TPalooz totally counts as D’s first concert. TOTALLY.

My first one was Tiffany and NKOTB, which is only noteworthy because I hated their dumb faces but my friends all wanted to go and we were at Six Flags anyways so i got stuck going and it BLEW. After that, Def Leppard. Also my first limo ride. Bryan is so fistbumping me right now.

  7. Aimee Greeblemonkey

TRACY – were you catching us tweet-singing Wham Rap just now on Twitter???? You win for coolest first concert ever!!!

  8. Aimee Greeblemonkey

OK, wait. Heather S might win with Sha Na Na.

  9. Aimee Greeblemonkey

    MrLady – TIFFANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the FUCK is that about???? LOL!

  10. Kyria @ Travel Spot

Mine was Bryan Adams. My Dad was our “chaperone”.

I also saw the Scorpions (it must have been my second)! Rock on!

OMG. Ready? Air Supply. – m

  12. Magpie

Springsteen. 1984. I still have the t-shirt. It’s the one with his cute butt in jeans.

  13. Sizzle

I’m not totally sure but I would say mine is Kool & the Gang. But it very well could have been Rick Astley or Richard Marx.

I should be more embarrassed. But I’m not.

  14. Issas Crazy World

I saw Billy Very and the Beaters as a seven year old. At the House of Blues in Los Angeles. I’m pretty sure my dad knew people. ha.

And then NKOTB when I was nine. I’ve seen a ton of great ones though. My parents were all about concerts.

My girls have been to a few. Dixie Chicks when they were say 4 and 2. Sounds horrible but they were great through the entire thing. They also saw Taylor Swift last year. Because I’m a sucker.

I’m so sexy my first concert was Wham! With my mom.

I’m not sure it counts, but Soren went to Monolith before he was born (going to Red Rocks while 800 months pregnant was fab). He went to MGMT at 7 months. Good lord, I hope he doesn’t grow up to be a hipster.

I am going to say location may have a lot to do with it as well. As a child in PoDunk Virginia my first was Sha Na Na. We were living large! Ha!

Tori should be touring the States again soon and I do believe that will be Z’s first! Hopefully it will be a lifelong happy memory and when he is my age he won’t laugh out loud when he tells people who he saw for his first concert. =)

  17. GraceRodriguez

    Depeche Mode & OMD!

  18. Kim Hosey

First as dragged to it by my parents: Sha Na Na. (These guys.)

First on my own: Smashing Pumpkins/Garbage.

  19. Kim Hosey

Oh my gosh. I didn’t read the Sha Na Na BEFORE me. I had no idea anyone else saw those guys on purpose. I thought it was just my dad.

  20. AMB

REM at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in the Woodlands, TX. I *really* wanted it to be NKOTB for my 12th birthday, but my mom said NO. So REM was my first. FYI – finally saw NKOTB(& BSB) this year for my 35th birthday simply because they were touring again and this time mom couldn’t say NO! REM was a way better concert, but watching Donnie Walberg RIP HIS SHIRT OFF right in front of me was quite enjoyable.

  21. Kim Hosey

OK, I found the photographic evidence, though I’m not sure I should be proud of it. I think this is the only concert picture I have.

  23. Mixtape Jones

Paul McCartney, Washington, DC, RFK Stadium, July 4th, 1990. I pretty much win. AMB is a close second w/ R.E.M., though.

  24. monstergirlee

Actual First Concert at a Big Concert Arena: Foreigner. Supporting the Foreigner 4 Album. I was 14 years old. It was at the old Metropolitan Center, on which now sits the Mall of America. sigh…

  25. Connie Weiss

My very first concert was Patty Loveless. (She’s a country singer in case you aren’t familiar)

First concert where I drank beer and my parents weren’t with me. George Strait.

Yes, I used to be a red neck.

  26. Schmutzie

    Jesus Jones.

  27. Tree

First concert – Tears for Fears!

  28. kali

Official first concert: Barry Manilow with my mom.
My first concert by myself with my best friend: Night Ranger.

  29. pdxhadey

My first concert was Janet Jackson – the Rhythm Nation 1814 tour. It was SUPPOSED to be Bon Jovi, but my best friend and I got in trouble for getting caught by the police out past curfew, so her mom took our tickets away. SO. UNFAIR.

My kids are 2 & 4, and haven’t been to a “real” concert yet. Only conerts in the park, which don’t count.
