The collaboration here in Denver is amazing. Recently Joel Van Horne (who performs under the name Covenhoven) had a very special show at the Walnut Room that included openers Josh Dillard and Navy, as well as Megan Burtt and members of Sphere Ensemble symphony group playing with him. There was also a video shoot happening, so I can’t wait for that to be revealed as well.
The main point, of course, is the music. Joel is one of those songwriters who pierce your heart. Then you listen to him sing and it just feels like Colorado to me. Not sure what that means, exactly, but listen and you will understand.
So, of course we’re going to make “Covenhoven II” happen, right? The Kickstarter to fund the album runs through November 29th and he is about 1/4 of the way there. I know these things always come down to the last minute but it’s also about showing people you care about their creations… with just $5 or $10 (or more!) so incredible new music continues to be made.
Which in turn benefits me, of course, because I get to photograph it!
P.S. Covenhoven plays next on 12/27/14 with Zack Heckendorf at the Bluebird.
