I often talk about how lucky we have been to become friends with bands as I photograph shows and Texas band The Unlikely Candidates are a prime example. Although the joke is, they tour Colorado so much these days, we all consider them Denverites. (Not “native,” of course, because after 22 years here, I am not even allowed to go there yet.)
TUC hit the new(ish) Moxi Theater in Greeley last month for the first time, and will be returning there on September 30th. (They also play the Marquis here in Denver on October 2nd, for those keeping score.)
Not only do I like these guys as people, it started with their music. You have heard their big hit “Follow Your Feet” followed by their other big hit “Your Love Could Start a War.”
But, while I love their tunes, I am a big fan of their live set. It’s raucous, sweaty, rambunctious, fun rock and roll. The sweat comes from their proclivity for leather jackets in 100-degree heat, but hey – if they can keep up that level of activity while spraying the crowd with body fluids – more power to them.
Personally, I am pulling for native status for this band, but I will take all the shows I can get in the meantime.
