Since my son is a sophomore in high school, I rarely introduce him to new music anymore. Often when I tell him who I am photographing, he is either unimpressed, doesn’t like them, or doesn’t care. (Teenagers, humph.) But when I said I thought he would really like George Ezra, he apparently heard me because George’s new album Staying at Tamara’s has been floating around the house for weeks now. He even loves the same song that is my favorite, “Paradise.”
I still don’t quite get where George’s deep voice comes from, but it sounds even better live than recorded. The dude was also utterly charming as he engaged with the crowd. I may or may not have been the person screaming from the back when he was talking about Eurovision (which we watched the finals of this weekend.) I especially loved the stories behind his songs and how the new album is from his stay with a real-life person named Tamara in Barcelona.
Fun chatter aside, George Ezra has serious chops – both as a singer and musician. The sold-out show proved that Denver loves him and I promised my son he could come next time around too.
