I love when bands support good causes. Last weekend The Unlikely Candidates were in Denver for two great ones. They are longtime supporters of Bonfils Blood Center through their work with Music Saves Lives. Recent blood donors were eligible to attend a special private brunch with the band at Larimer Lounge, also supported by Channel 93.3. When I was giving blood, one of the nurses remembered that the band themselves gave blood the last time they were in town. “Which one is petrified of needles?” Come to find out that was lead singer Kyle, but he overcame his fear and gave blood that day too.
I didn’t realize that blood donations drop sharply (haha) in the summer because high schools are substantial contributors. Personally, I was off the donor list for a while because of travel, but I was happy to do it again – especially since Bonfils makes it easy and comfortable. Check out their locations and try to get in there this summer to help out.
The Unlikely Candidates were also a headliner at Denver’s Day of Rock, a free outdoor concert that supports Amp The Cause. Since 2004, this non-profit has distributed over $7 million in monetary and in-kind donations to their beneficiaries. My gallery of photos from TUC’s set at DDOR is below.
Be sure to catch these guys when they return to Denver at Levitt Pavilion on August 16th – another free show!
