We always say that Red Rocks is the best venue on earth – and it is – but especially now with Denver’s explosive growth, sometimes it’s hard to get there through afternoon traffic. Case in point for the Young The Giant, Fitz & The Tantrums and COIN last month – where I sat in my car fuming about how I was missing, well, COIN. (Who, by the way, killed it – according to sources how made it out early.)
Luckily I was in time for the two headliners, and inside a nearly 10,000 person venue that is sold out, it usually feels like most of the mile-high is there too.
Noelle Scaggs is from Denver actually, so she was pretty happy to be home and playing at said best venue on earth. I have photographed Fitz & The Tantrums so many times, but they remain one of my favorites, especially live. The chemistry between Noelle, Fitz and the crowd is unmistakable – they are there to put on a show, and they deliver every single time. Lucky for us, the band is also releasing a new album this fall.
And what to say about Young The Giant? Lead singer Sameer Gadhia is mesmerizing and his voice magical. I have also photographed YTG before, and they like it dark. It definitely creates a sense of mystery (and silhouetted photos), but there is no question why these guys are among one of the top pop rocks bands right now. Great tunes, great lyrics, great messages, great love shows. I listen to my Young The Giant playlist on the regular and I look forward to filling it with new music asap too.
