Another bucket list item for me, check! Legendary band Blues Traveler has been playing at Red Rocks over 4th of July for years and years, but I have always missed them for whatever reason. So in 2021, as we get back to life again, I was determined to see John Popper and the gang do their thing live – finally!
The show felt a bit more subdued than I expected, but maybe that was just because I was overly excited to see these guys (a symptom of all 2021 concerts, to be sure). Their musicianship was first and foremost, with John’s harmonica leading the way. We photographers get three songs, and Blues Traveler treated me to an old fave, “Run-Around,” for my last one in the pit.
Watching the rest of the show from the sidelines was also a treat, just to see the elated faces of fans getting back to jamming along with their band on America’s birthday.
