This year’s Westword Music Showcase was a departure from years past. WMS 2021 moved to the RiNo neighborhood and split into two nights. I was humbled to host the Larimer Lounge stage during night one, as well as have a pop-up concert photo gallery in their new space next door. That night was filled with local bands, but the Denver-centric love didn’t stop there – several Colorado bands also played day two, located on the Mission Ballroom grounds.
Overall, I really liked the layout. Since the Mission venue was so well thought out, I am not surprised the area surrounding it was ready to handle a large festival with three stages. The only complaint I heard was regarding long lines for food and drink – something I am sure Westword will address in future years.
As for the music? Yet again, WMS had a nice variety of old favorites plus bands I saw live for the first time. And as per usual at any festival, I could not photograph every band – but you get a good dose of the goings-on in the gallery below. Bonus: A personal fave is always the silent disco!
Very thankful for my long partnership with Westword Music Showcase and already looking forward to WMS 2022!
