The Flaming Lips at Mission Ballroom Denver

The last time I saw The Flaming Lips, they were here for Riot Fest (when they had a Denver edition). It’s insane that it was almost a decade till I caught them again, but the good news is I will see them twice this year – because they are headlining the Westword Music Showcase in September.

As you can tell by the photos below, Wayne Coyne and the crew are still up to their crazy antics; everything is a full-on visual spectacle. But also, Wayne’s voice is like honey. I’m not sure people talk about that enough when they enthuse about Flaming Lips concerts. Even coming from inside his plastic bubble, it’s like a balm as he belts out the indie and introspective songs they are known for.

Basically, a Flaming Lips show is a feel-good night filled with great music and happy vibes. I can’t wait to get back to that in just a few short months.
