Federales Tequila & Taco Restaurant Opens in Denver
Note: Our visit was covered by Federales, however all words and photos (unless noted) are mine.
Have you noticed that huge building on the corner of 29th and Larimer in RiNo? That’s the new Federales Tequila & Taco, and we got to go check it out recently. When I say huge, I mean 2,800 square feet of steel plus a retractable roof to take advantage of our terrific Denver weather. Of course, the evening we visited, it was raining (I know… huh?), but that was the beauty of it – the roof was closed and we were protected from the elements.
Then we were free to enjoy the scrumptious menu of apps, tacos, and of course – margaritas. Personally, I was also thrilled to see light beers in the offerings. RiNo is a sea of craft breweries, so it’s nice to have a haven for my easy-drinking faves. But the spotlight at Federales is on margaritas – both frozen and classic – including a spicy watermelon version and a frozen tequila rosé, all alongside a robust list of craft cocktails, many of them tequila based. I had them mix the mango and raspberry frozen margarita and was not disappointed.
Federales offers house-made tamales, traditional enchiladas, tortas, and more, but the real stars of the show are the roster of tacos which includes the lamb quesabirria (available on Wednesdays and Sundays only), wood-grilled shrimp with mango, crispy potato, and pork and pineapple, among others. We tried a variety – high spicy for my husband and mucho mild for me. Again, I liked that there was something for everyone and my fave for sure was the Gringo Taco Supreme. I really can’t handle spicy at all (there are a few of us out there) and our server was great at helping me find perfect selections for me. Yes! Things can be flavorful without burning your mouth off! (P.S. We loved everything we tasted.)
Federales specifically selected the new location in the RiNo Arts District and is embracing the motto “where art is made” with a mural stretching the entire back wall from EnMasse with Colorado native Jason Botkin leading the project with Vincent Gordon of Denver’s DCCX Gallery. I enjoyed searching for all the Denver landmarks rolled into the beautiful design.
So, yes, a hearty thumb’s up from us, Federales. I look forward to many warm days sitting on your patio, enjoying street tacos and sippings beers. See you again very soon!
