Billy Joel Photos from Denver’s Coors Field
I know I am a bit of an oddball in terms of a music site. Which means sometimes people appreciate that my posts are more personal and less music critique – and some don’t. It also means “you win some, you lose some” in terms of requesting to photograph shows. Photographing Billy Joel at Denver’s Coors Field was a big (long) shot for me. But I had to try since he is one of my very favorite artists, he was one of the very few artists my recently deceased mother loved, and – hello – I even named my cat after him.
I already had tickets on the field with some of my best friends (I was clicking the minute they went on sale) but when the photo approval email came in, I actually had tears running down my face. That maybe sounds a bit overly dramatic, but I think all the fans at the show will get where I am coming from. I talked to several people who had flown in from all over because the stadium tour was a limited run.
These ladies made it a 1985 high school reunion.
I got to watch them from side stage as we waited to shoot the first three songs, and they were having a ball. A great reminder of the bond music can have over a lifetime.
My photos below are maybe not my best-ever work but they mean so much to me. I have been listening to Billy Joel my entire life. He is one of the greatest songwriters ever. And he came to Denver, played a special venue on a gorgeous night, with a setlist (below) packed with magical songs. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
Billy Joel – Denver Concert Photos – Coors Field 2019
Here are a few photos from my phone after I stowed my big-girl camera and watched the rest of the show with friends (and my husband). Everyone always asks me what kind of camera I have, but the best one is what you have with you to capture the times of your life with special people.
Much love from a very happy fan.
