Portraits In The Park

I joined the board of City Park Jazz this year, which of course means we have been attending more of their concerts. For those who don't know, City Park Jazz is all-volunteer organization that provides 10 free summer concerts every Sunday in Denver's City Park. What this also means, for me, is arriving early... which in turn means sitting front and center rather than the outskirts of those 8,000-10,000 people who regularly attend. In turn, this close proximately to the stage has caused me to watch the light change as the sun sets - and notice what a great location the pavilion is for photo shoots.

Denver Comic Con 2014

Note: Denver Comic Con provided media passes but we purchased additional tickets for the kids. All photos and words are mine.So often I drag my son around to events and he has no idea what is going on. Denver Comic Con was the first event…
The Fray at Red Rocks

The Fray at Red Rocks

The Fray are cursed. Every single time they play at Red Rocks, it absolutely pours. As if Mother Nature grabs a huge bucket and dumps it on Morrison, Colorado, whenever she hears the first few notes of Over My Head. Not joking. DUMPS. I know,…
Chihuly Exhibit Denver Botanic Gardens

Chihuly Exhibit at Denver Botanic Gardens

The first time we visited Seattle as a family, we made sure to see the Chihuly Museum at the base of the Space Needle. When we were invited back this past spring by 2 Days In Seattle, I asked Dex what he wanted to do…
Dicount Code Westword WMS

FanPlan.Info Discount Code for Westword Music Showcase (WMS)

Sometimes ideas are born of frustration. The past few years Bryan, Monika and I have been attending festivals and having trouble accessing schedules in the moment due to poor cell service and/or apps that are full of graphics. At one point last year we started making Google Doc spreadsheets that had the times, bands, venues and twitter handles available - just to make our lives easier. This morphed into FanPlan.Info, which is a text-based micro site best viewed on mobile phones. It shows (and sorts) the schedule of major festivals by time, band and stage. And when you click "tweet this," a pre-populated tweet pops up with band name, twitter handle (if they have one), venue name, venue handle (if they have one), the time the band is playing, official festival hashtag, and, of course, #fanplan.
Denver Comic Con

A Real Superhero is Coming To Denver Comic Con

Note: Denver Comic Con has provided my family with passes and Grayson's photo but words are mine.
There has been a real shift in our family entertainment this year. It's not just us telling Dex about cool stuff coming to town, he is noticing it happening around him and requesting to go. Case in point is Denver Comic Con, which runs June 13-15 at the Denver Convention Center. Of course I have heard of it before. Let's face it, we're nerds (and proud of it). The timing just never worked out. But when your graphic-novel loving, Dr. Who-vian, Minecraft-obsessed kid asks about Comic Con, you put it on the calendar.
Denver Chalk Art Festival

Denver Chalk Art Festival

Summer is officially here. Sure, not REALLY till later in June, but the weather sure feels like it this weekend. On top of our blue skies and 85 degrees, there was lots of chalk art in Larimer Square. Absolutely for sure PROOF it is summer.…
