New Politics at Marquis Theater
There seems to be a trend lately, of popular bands playing in clubs that are much smaller than they usually would. I assume it’s because they enjoy the intimacy of interacting closely with their fans but, either way, I am not complaining. I was shocked when New Politics announced they were playing one of my favorite small clubs in Denver, the Marquis Theater. The place holds about 350 people! Where was David Boyd going to breakdance?
He found a way, but he definitely didn’t have much space, given the place was (of course) packed. These smaller shows with big bands also make it a bit hard to photograph since we have to fight our way through the crowd, apologizing, but everyone was super helpful that night. I think we all knew we were in the middle of something special.
New Politics just released a single called “Comeback Kid,” their first new music in two years. Perhaps they are just getting back in the groove in general.
I routinely say that New Politics is one of the best bands to see live, and their latest stop in Denver was no exception. After I was done photographing, I scooted to the back so I could dance the rest of the night with every one of those other 349 people squeezed together for a very, very sweaty evening.
Hopefully, the guys will come back (hahahaha) again very, very soon.
