While the current music industry has a bit of a “wild west” feel to it, I love that some new artists are able to find their own paths, on their own terms. Kina Grannis won a big recording contest, but found she had more control and creative freedom on her own – and was gaining success on YouTube using that beautiful voice and fun personality of hers. She brought all of that to her live show at the Bluebird Theater in Denver recently.
The whole room was mesmerized by her, but she also had a full band there (including her husband and opening act Imaginary Future) that fluctuated between a very big sound and allowing Kina to just sing. She included her fans in the show by drawing numbers to answer their questions and even bringing them on stage to sing with her.
Truly, a great example of how you can make it on your own steam and talent. I will be first in line when Kina comes back to Denver.
