It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Sure, Christmas and all, but for Denver music fans, it also means KTCL Channel 93.3’s Hometown For The Holidays contest. In a nutshell, Colorado bands submit songs to Alf, who has the “Locals Only” show on Sunday nights. KTCL brings a large group of local music professionals in who listen to the songs anonymously and rate them (I was honored to be included again this year). The votes are tallied and the top ten bands are announced every year at Not So Silent Night. Those ten get airplay for a few weeks, Music Nerds vote in a survey, then the top three play the HTFTH concert in December – which is a free show that this year features My Body Sings Electric. The ultimate winner of the whole shebang then goes on to play Westword Music Showcase and Not So Silent Night the following year. Wildermiss took the prize last year and have been kicking much ass ever since.
So, who are in the top ten this year? Every song is pretty damn awesome, so I am not sure how it’s going to go. No matter what happens, I’ll be happy. I voted more songs the highest I possibly could across the board than I ever have. Congrats to everyone in Colorado who is making such great music.

Hometown Honorable Mentions
Another thing I love when attending the Hometown Listening Party is finding new music. Here are some “honorable mention” (solely my opinion, I am not privy to the voting totals) bands that I either recognized or am discovering for the first time:
CITRA, Glass Cases, Grayson Erhard, HoldFast, The Hollow, Ivory Circle, Nic Jay, Post Paradise, Redamancy, Rumours Follow, Silver & Gold, Slow Caves, Television Generation, Thousand Frames, Walking With Bikes and Whitacre.
Follow these bands and check out their music!

Looking forward to hearing the above songs on the radio and then seeing the Top Three live. Come out and support!
