Interpol, Car Seat Headrest, Japanese Breakfast & Sunflower Bean at Red Rocks
It’s almost like Spring skipped right over Denver. It certainly felt that way at the Interpol show at Red Rocks, where we had a combination of freezing rain and snow all night. The good news none of the four bands playing that night seemed particularly affected by it, except maybe Car Seat Headrest, who got the brunt of the white stuff. “I am pretty sure I can’t feel my fingers right now,” said lead singer Will Toldedo – summing up all the photographer’s sentiments as well.
Interpol in the snow is pretty magical, though. Their moody rock music is a perfect match for the expansive feel of Red Rocks. These guys are New York through and through but somehow, when bands play there, they mold the place to their mood. Interpol played plenty of music from their extensive discography, and only one song (the title track) from their new EP, A Fine Mess.
With other openers Japanese Breakfast and Sunflower Bean, no one was complaining about the weather.
Interpol is in Europe right now, but return to the United States this summer for dates with Morrissey. They’ll be at our by-then-newly opened Mission Ballroom on September 26th.
Guess where I will be on that date?
