Jerry Harrison & Adrian Belew at Ogden Denver
Sometimes you can just tell a show will not only be a favorite of the year, but maybe the decade. Such was the case when Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew joined forces for the Remain In Light tour, starting here in Denver. Jerry Harrison is well known as a guiding force of Talking Heads and Adrian Belew is well know for playing with, well, everyone… but most notably King Crimson, Zappa, Bowie and (also) the Talking Heads.
As the setlist shows below, the night was a tribute to both of their primary bands. I’ll admit, when they came out and I heard the first few notes of “Psycho Killer,” I about lost my mind. As I later told a friend, “I was five feet from a Talking Head!” But the other crazy thing is I actually met Adrian Belew at a tiny Sara Hickman show way back in the 90s – and we talked for a good long while. He was a genuinely nice person back then, and as you can see by his infectious smile – it certainly seems like he still is now.
Both Adrian and Jerry were having a blast. And they did the show in a very smart way. Let those incredible songs shine, let their own brilliance shine (of which there is a lot) but also bring along a younger crowd (seven-piece funk/jam/rock band Cool Cool Cool) to add a lot of fun and sunshine too.
The Remain in Light tour continues into June and I highly recommend catching this one if you can.
