The Carringtons Release New Album The Reunion

Québec City garage-punk band The Carringtons have released their new album, The Reunion. The 10-song record pushes the band’s fast, economical punk toward bigger hooks, added electronics and a more polished garage-pop sound.

The Carringtons formed 12 years ago, but found a new sense of direction after regrouping in 2023. Ben Fortier, Joey Savard, Alex Charron and Dave Chamberland have since toured throughout Canada and made their way to Europe for shows in France, Belgium and the United Kingdom.

That live energy carries into The Reunion. The band is known for packing 15 songs into a half-hour set, and the new album keeps moving with the same urgency. Most of its songs land around the two-minute mark, leaving little room for anything that does not serve the melody or momentum.

Producer Adrian Popovich recorded and mixed the album at Mountain City Studios in Montréal. A former member of Tricky Woo and current member of American Lips, Popovich helped The Carringtons expand their basic guitar, bass and drums setup without burying what makes it work. Synths and electronic textures add depth around the edges while the guitars and choruses stay firmly in front.

Hugo Mudie of The Sainte Catherines also helped refine the arrangements, and Marc-André Beaudet mastered the finished album.

Release-week focus track “Emptiness” is a compact introduction to where The Carringtons are now. The two-minute song pairs regret and isolation with one of the record’s largest choruses. Its accompanying video is out now.

Other key tracks include “Nightfall,” “Embers” and “Isolation.” Across the album, The Carringtons pull together garage punk, indie rock and power pop without losing the directness of their earlier work.

The Reunion is out now.
