Judah & The Lion - Denver Concert Photos & Review

Judah & The Lion at Fillmore Denver

Judah & The Lion is a band that’s mastered the art of blending genres and breaking musical boundaries. Formed in Nashville in 2011, they quickly became known for their eclectic sound, fusing folk, bluegrass, rock, and even hip-hop into anthems that resonate with fans worldwide. Their breakout album, Folk Hop N’ Roll (2016), put them on the map with hits like “Take It All Back,” which topped alternative radio charts and earned them a reputation for uplifting, high-energy tracks. Currently the band consists of Judah Akers (vocals, guitar) and Brian Macdonald (mandolin, vocals), although former member and Colorado native Nate Zuercher made it for our 2024 Denver concert at the Fillmore.

Their latest album, The Process, delves into lead singer and main songwriter Judah Akers’ personal journey with grief, encompassing the loss of family members to suicide and the dissolution of his marriage all within a mere six months. The 19-track album is a soul-baring song cycle that wrestles with the five stages of grief – Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance – and ultimately finds beauty and purpose in the pain.

The latest show definitely had a different feel than those in the past. Their was still great energy and fun, but you can tell there has been a lot of introspection on the part of the band. (Much like we all have had over the past five+ years.)

Judah and the Lion have a few remaining shows in January, but hopefully they will add more in 2025 so people can catch the new music live.
