K.Flay Concert Photos & Review - Marquis Denver

K.Flay at Marquis Denver

I was lucky enough to interview K.Flay last year, right as she was starting to bounce back from her sudden hearing loss and getting back to the business of music. Since then, she has released the excellent album MONO (obvious connotation there with the name), and came to visit us for back-to-back sold out concerts at the Marquis. Coming out in full fighting garb, it was obvious that K. Flay was ready to kick ass and take names.

K.Flay, born Kristine Flaherty, is known for her eclectic blend of alternative rock, hip-hop, and electronic music. Her style often incorporates elements of indie rock and pop as well. She’s recognized for her introspective lyrics, dynamic vocals, and catchy beats. Check, check, check, for things I like seeing in a live show!

She started with the song, “Are You Serious?” – which as someone who went through a very similar hearing loss story, I highly relate. Then she pushed hard through several more songs from MONO, with the high energy ferocity she is known for. I knew the Marquis, as much as it’s a fave venue, was too small for her and the place was overflowing both nights. It makes for a real experience, though, when the whole place is completely vibing with such a terrific performer. She finished up with hits like “Blood in the Cut” and “High Enough” – so we got the full range of her catalog.

K.Flay heads back on tour throughout Canada this summer, so our friends to the north have the chance to see her in 2024.
