Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats at Red Rocks
It’s been so fun to watch Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats become one of the most recognized bands in recent years, blending soul, rock, and a little bit of folk into a sound that’s irresistibly fun. They formed in 2013 in here Denver, Colorado, with Nathaniel Rateliff stepping into the spotlight after spending years as a solo artist. (I actually was able to photograph their very first show, opening for Joe King of The Fray.) His earlier solo work was more folk-focused and first band Born In The Flood was definitely all about rock. With The Night Sweats, he found a groove that spoke to both his roots and the power of soul music.
The Night Sweats are known for bringing incredible energy to the stage, with tight rhythms, bold horn sections, and Rateliff’s commanding presence at the forefront. Each show feels like a celebration, with fans singing along and dancing in the aisles. Whether they’re playing at intimate venues like that one at the Ogden way back, or big venues like Red Rocks, they bring the same intensity – making every performance feel personal.
In 2024, the band released South of Here, a more introspective album that showcases Rateliff’s emotional depth as a songwriter. His blend of heartfelt lyrics, infectious melodies, and a retro vibe keeps fans coming back for more.
If you get the chance to see Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats live, don’t pass it up. They finish up in the US this fall, then head to Australia, and then back at to the tour in 2025. It’s an experience you won’t forget, filled with soul, energy, and a whole lot of sweat.
