Vulfpeck Concert Denver Red Rocks - Photos & Review

Vulfpeck at Red Rocks

If you’ve ever wanted to join a funk-fueled house party hosted by a bunch of music nerds with world-class chops and zero ego, welcome to the world of Vulfpeck. Formed in 2011 by a group of University of Michigan music students, this tight-knit collective blends vintage grooves, dry humor, and DIY energy into something totally irresistible. Recently, this crew performed for us at Red Rocks, and the show was nonstop fun from beginning to end.

Jack Stratton, the band’s ringleader and keyboard wizard, keeps things weird in the best way possible. Bass phenom Joe Dart can steal scene without saying a word. Theo Katzman croons and shreds, while drummer Woody Goss rounds out the funk fam. Frequent collaborators include Antwaun Stanley, Cory Wong, and Joey Dosik.

Their shows are less “concert” and more “funky fever dream.” Whether it’s a sold-out gig at Madison Square Garden (yes, they did that independently) or an outdoor blowout like our show at Red Rocks, a Vulfpeck concert feels like a high-five in musical form.

In a sea of overproduced pop and overhyped egos, Vulfpeck proves that you can be tight and silly, professional and playful, serious musicians and total goofballs. All of my favorite things!
