Tiptoeing Around Christmas

My pal Jen sent a CNN article about the war of words around “Happy Holidays” vs. “Merry Christmas.”

Personally, I think there is a middle ground here, people. It is stupid to call a Christmas Tree a Holiday Tree. No need to take Merry Christmas out of your ad campaign, as long as you understand you are marketing only to Christians. On the other side of the coin, don’t get pissed at Wal-Mart for taking Christmas out of their holiday ad campaign, because – gasp! They might actually have a few customers who are not Christians. (Besides, there is a whole litany of other things to get pissed at Wal-Mart about.)

I only say Merry Christmas to people I know are Christians, and Happy Holidays to everyone else. It is not like I am dogging Xmas by doing that, I am just including everyone.

How hard is that?
