Travel & Conference Schedule 2010

Bryan and I do this every year.

We don’t talk about what is we’re up to in the next year all through the holidays, and then BAM! Beginning of the year, I get this ITCH to fill up our calendar. ITCH ITCH ITCH. So we scratched. We sat down and really talked about travel for the year, and here is what we have so far.

JANUARY:

January 15-27 – Winter Park, Colorado
You will hear more about this next week, but Amber has arranged for several Colorado mombloggers to visit our local Colorado slopes and report back. Have you seen the Terror on The Mountain video??? Yeah. Amber had, and we agreed that my boys would ski while I document. Good plan.

January 23rd – Chicks Who Click – Denver, Colorado
I attended this conference last year and loved the small, intimate feel – so I was thrilled when Denise asked me to speak this year. Amy Fruitlady will be trying to wrangle a conversation between myself, the aforementioned Amber, Julie Momslant and Olivia Omega. Hope you can join us!

FEBRUARY:
I actually am unable to attend these conferences, but wanted to point out Mom 2.0 in particular since I went last year, it’s put on by my pals at Kirtsy and again, it was another intimate conference setting that I really enjoyed. Also, I have not attended Blissdom before, but based on the buzz, you ladies had a blast! Go and rock it!

MARCH:
March 11-16 – SXSW Interactive – Austin, Texas
I know it sounds a bit dramatic, but SXSWi may have saved my career. The first time I attended, I had been … bored… for lack of a better word, with my web development and graphic design work. I attended SXSW and they shot a fire straight up my patootie. Recently, it had expanded to seeing my social media friends… and yes… IT IS DAMN FUN.

*If you will be in Austin, let me know and I will add you to my #sxsw list on Twitter.

End of March – Spring Break
Unless we find some crazy cheap sweet travel deal to Mexico, I actually think Bryan and I will be taking the week of Declan’s Spring Break off and working around the house. I KNOW. What the HELL. But when you live in a 1930’s Tudor, you have to do that every once in a while.

APRIL:
I turn 40 this month. FOUR-TEE. I will let you know where to send your presents. Just kidding. What I will *really* be doing? A Booze Cruise with a few other friends turning 40, which is actually not the Love Boat sort of cruise, but a ton of people riding around on their bikes, as in bicycles, doing a pub crawl while dressed in our best Halloween costumes. Holla!

MAY:
Oh, and did you know Bryan and I got married in 1996 and will be celebrating our 14th wedding anniversary this Memorial Day? He can’t believe it either. Maybe *this* is when we should fit Mexico in. Sans Declan.

JUNE:
June 24-26, 2010 – Evo Conference – Park City, Utah
Remember when I jumped in a pool fully clothed last year? With this lady? Well, she has a conference going on this summer and I plan to be there.

AUGUST:
August 5 – 7 – BlogHer – New York, New York
Yes. I am going to BlogHer this year. But there is a catch. Bryan and I both grew up in Maryland and BOTH have never been to NYC. I know. Tragedy. So, we are flying in to Maryland, dumping the kid off with my family (they are all so excited that I am scared Declan won’t want to leave), making Bryan and I BOTH available to go to New York for BlogHer. So, I purchased the cocktail pass for BOTH of us, screw that Mexico trip I mentioned before, we’ll go sightseeing during the day to celebrate our anniversary, and we’ll BOTH hang out with you all at night.

SEPTEMBER:

Kansas City, MO
Trying to talk Bryan into letting me do a girls weekend in KC after Declan turns 8 in September. I am not sure if mentioning it here will help or hurt the cause. Pleeeaaassseee Honeeeeeyyyyy!

OCTOBER:
Blogworld – Las Vegas, NV
This one is pretty iffy, but wanted to mention it, because I have never been, and everyone says I should go. Have you been? Thoughts? Convince me!

NOVEMBER:
Mexico? Belise? Costa Rica?
I have been teasing throughout the post about going somewhere tropical, but we are seriously looking at it for November. Depending on money – and exhaustion after all this travel, of course. (Because I am not counting work travel here, which luckily isn’t too crazy, but still, adds up). We have been to the Riviera Maya area in Mexico several times and loved it. A nice mixture of someone handing me a pina colada as I relax on the beach and us hiking around looking at historic ruins. Do you guys have any suggestions or thoughts on affordable, tropical destinations? That are nice but not too nice… Interesting but, um, not too interesting!?! Help a girl out.

So that’s what we are thinking for 2010. What are YOUR plans? Family trips? Conferences? Staycations? What are you up to this year?

P.S. Remember that Babble list of Top 50 Mommybloggers that I wasn’t on which lead me to do this post that broke my servers? Well, they are taking nominations for folks that were missed and I added like 15 people – so be sure to go and support me (thanks to whoever nominated me), them, and everyone else! LOVE FEST, PEOPLE!

We haven’t got this far! You really ARE crazy organized! 😉

So so jealous of your travel list!

Unfortunately for our family, traveling takes this stuff called money. And leave for my husband. Neither of which we get very much of from the Army.

We’ll probably try to work in a beach trip, and hopefully a trip to Missouri to see family.

I have this dream of someday getting to go on a vacation with just my husband, as we’ve never really done that. Maybe some day. 🙂

  3. Aimee Greeblemonkey

I know Meghann, I feel really lucky we get to travel so much. So lucky!!!

  4. Anonymous

    I don’t do conferences like that – I live vicariously through you. 😉 – m

  5. CassJustCurious

I would recommend Thatch Caye in Belize. Its an incredible hand made eco island…really special place.

p.s.-I just reread what I wrote and hope it didn’t come across as whiny as it seems to me now. I’m totally excited for you and can’t wait to see all the pictures you’re going to take!

  7. Kristen Race

I’m planning on coming down from Steamboat for the Chick/click conference. That’s looking like my vacation for the Winter. Not quite the beaches of Mexico, but it will be nice to get out of town and check out the conference.

  8. Aimee Greeblemonkey

Meghann, not at all. I even waffled over posting this because I didn’t want to seem all Braggy McBraggerton. 😉 But I really wanted tips like the one Cass posted (thanks!)

  9. Aimee Greeblemonkey

And yeah Kristen! Look forward to meeting you!

Ooh, I thought of something, since you’ll be in NYC. You must go to Ray’s Pizza. You know the big deal is all about which is the original Ray’s. I researched, and the one we went to was the first one licensed as “Ray’s Pizza” in NYC. The guy who owns it even used to work for the Italian mafia. It’s at 27 Prince Street, down by NYU. You want the little pizza joint, not the actual restaurant that is next door. Great pizza, and the ambiance was awesome, since it’s one of those little neighborhood joints where they know practically everyone who comes in the door.(and did I mention the mafia part?)

BlogHer! Can’t wait to see you!

And my sister is getting married, probably in Tahoe, probably in Aug or Sept. Considering tagging Disneyland onto this (I realized Anaheim and Tahoe are not exactly in spitting distance, but they are at least in the same time zone.

  12. zipper

I saw you tweeted about Declan snorkeling yesterday – Cozumel?

  13. Boston Mamas

Dude, I am impressed. I can barely think beyond February. I need to go get organized. -Christine

  14. Sizzle

Of course you are going to NY the year I am skipping BlogHer. Guess I will just have to come to Colorado!

  15. Mamma

Wait just a minute! I’m turning 40 before you? We must celebrate together.

    March 30–go Aries!

  16. Miranda

Wow. My plans pale in comparison. I would love to go to a social media conference someday thought…I wish I’d read more about chicks who click sooner. It looks slightly less terrifying to me. 🙂

  17. Shannon

My family goes here every year. It’s about 30 minutes outside Puerto Vallarta, on the beautiful side of Banderas Bay. It’s not an all-inclusive, but it’s amazing and very affordable.

I really, REALLY want to go to Mom 2.0, since you know, I LIVE there and stuff, but alas…I have no child care. *sigh*

  18. Barb

IZEAFest seriously rocks. I would love to get a bunch of to that one.

See ya at CWC, EVO and Blogher (oh, and of course all the local cool places we both hang)

  19. Aimee Greeblemonkey

IZEA. That was another one I was thinking about. When is it?

  20. Headless Mom

I miss Winter Park. Practically grew up there on the weekends as a teen. Anyway, wave at the mountain for me!

  21. Deb

I’m on the fence about SXSW. I earned a pass from them, so I have that. I love it. Kinda want to bring my kid to Screenburn. But the time and travel money, not sure if that’s how I want to use it. I really don’t know what will tip the balance for me.

  22. Average Jane

Let me know if you decide to come to Kansas City. I’ve lived here my entire life and I know all the good places. 🙂

    See you at BlogHer.

  23. Tickled Red

Your travel list sounds fantastic, especially the birthday bicycling pub crawl in costumes…right up my alley. I am debating the Chicks that Click in Raleigh, NC or Blogher in NYC? Decisions, decisions. Other than those we travel for surf contest all summer. I hope to squeeze in a horseback riding trip in the mountains at some point. I hope that all of your plans work out 🙂
