The first time I saw Anderson .Paak was at the Montreal Jazz Fest from way, way back because the place was absolutely packed, no pun intended. When he was set to play a headlining show at Denver’s Red Rocks, I knew I had to be there front and center. The man has more talent in his pinky than many of us have, well, everywhere. He sings, raps, writes and plays a ton of instruments – primarily the drums.
He also knows how to make an entrance – the stage at Red Rocks emerged forward like a huge LED smile – similar to the grin Anderson himself totes for most of his show. There was fire, smoke and a talented backup band – but frankly, every eye was on the enigmatic lead dude. His stage name comes from a switch-up from his real name (Brandon Paak Anderson) and ever since his debut album in 2012, he’s been on fire literally and figuratively.
Anderson .Paak was also just at Outside Lands this past weekend (us too!) and he put on another hellova set. He heads to Europe next, but catch him back on the east coast this fall.
