Cabaret Voltaire at Summit Denver

There are some bands you never really expect to photograph. Not because they are out of reach, exactly, but because their music belongs to such a distinct place in history. Cabaret Voltaire is absolutely one of those bands for me.

It was an honor to photograph these legends at the Summit in Denver.

The show carried plenty of nostalgia, but it never felt like Cabaret Voltaire was simply looking backward. The music was still strange, forceful and adventurous. The same pioneering spirit that made the band so influential was right there in the room, pushing against expectations and refusing to settle into anything too comfortable.

That balance made the night especially memorable. You could appreciate the history while also feeling how alive the music remains. Cabaret Voltaire helped create sounds that countless artists have built upon since, yet hearing those songs live still felt distinctive and even futuristic.

This was not a push-play electronic show, either. The music was actively being built and performed onstage, which gave these familiar songs a living, unpredictable energy.

The lighting was dark, which made photographing the show a challenge, but sometimes you work with the room you are given. I was simply grateful to be there with my camera, documenting a band whose influence reaches far beyond any one genre or era.

Cabaret Voltaire at Summit was nostalgic in the best possible way, while proving that pioneering music does not have to stay trapped in the past.
