Denver Band CITRA: Concert Photos from The Oriental
It’s no secret I am a big fan of CITRA; not only are they a great Denver band – but they are great friends. We were lucky to catch their very small show at The Oriental last weekend, with only a handful of fans – in accordance with the city rules in place now. The other concert I saw this year (in the “after times”) was also at The Oriental for In The Whale, and the venue continued to make us feel safe with their cleaning, masking, and social distancing.
As for CITRA? Sure, it’s weird to watch rock bands from seats, but we’ll take what we get, especially since it seems like we’re in for a long winter. Sure, I was blinded by their lighting while photographing them. Sure, the music was so loud I could hear it for the next three days straight. But this was their only live audience performance since it all went down, and they put their heart and soul into it. So, sure, it was a fucking great time!
I’ll be honest. I was also celebrating a bit too much myself and fell off that chair I was supposed to dancing in, or on, or whatever. Oops.
CITRA did have one show earlier this summer with no audience in attendance, but lucky for us – they are broadcasting that show for free over Thanksgiving weekend. Turkey hangover and Denver rock? Let’s do it!
Until things get better, here are photos of our pals to put you in the spirit. And if you have any extra this holiday season, please keep NIVA in mind as they try to #SaveOurStages and keep independent music venues open across the country.
