In Search of a Wii

Yes. We are one of the masses. We want a Wii. And if a Wii Fit would magically attach itself to the shopping cart, that would be cool too. What is Nintendo’s PROBLEM? Why are they in such short supply? Don’t they know it’s MAY, and not DECEMBER? I didn’t stand in line for Tickle Me Elmo and I sure as hell won’t stand in line for a video game.

OK, maybe I will.

But who wouldn’t, when it looks this fun?

A coworker came across 4 of them last week, bought one for herself, but didn’t know we were interested. She let 3 other Wii’s just sit there on the shelf. THREE! A virtual goldmine of Wii’s!

Thus, I am not letting it happen again. As the sage Dubya once said, “There’s an old saying in Tennessee – I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee (and Colorado) that says, fool me once, shame on – shame on you. Fool me – you can’t get fooled again.”

Translation: I want a fucking Wii!!!

How can I get one, people???

I didn’t realize they were still hard to get.. we’re getting one at work to use for therapy! I can’t wait!
I’ll check here for you if you want…. 😉

My husband called our local Wal-Ho every day, for six weeks, at exactly 10:30am. What happens at our Wal-Ho at 10:30 am? The daily shipping record is released, and the electronics department then knows how many (if any) Wii’s are in their way in. He drove there five times, arriving between 10:37 and 10:42 each time, before we finally got one.

Our advice? Make friends with the shipping department manager.

I got mine by trying a less-than-well-known game store on the recommendation of a friend. Got one w/in 24 hours of being on the Quest. Not having the same luck with the Wii Fit, tho….good luck!!

    yeah, good luck with that.

Oh, ditto over here!! Especially the Wii Fit which all my friends are raving about. I put off getting one in December since it was so ridiculous and my son’s b-day is in August which I *thought* would be an easier time to find one!!! yes? no? Crap!!

It will OWN you, dude. My friend Jeremy at http://discoveringdad.blogspot.com is giving one away…..

    Love the Dubya quote.

    e-bay… have you tried e-bay?

I wish I could help you, but I am completely and utterly Wii ignorant. My kids have one at their dad’s place and it’s literally ALL they do over there. I’ve got an addictive personality, so I daren’t bring one into my home.

I had to wait out at Best Buy in a freezing blizzard for 14 hours. There is always that option, though hopefully the people at Wii clue in and give you one to test. WAY easier on the extremities.

I scored my Wii through a friend who knew someone at a game developing company, but I know a few people who bought theirs at Costco. If I’d realized what a sellout the Fit would be, I would have pre-ordered one when that was still an option!

Here on this side of the world, they are just sitting at the shelves. Lotsa them!

Wii got one a few weeks ago and my 8 year old is already kicking my butt in all the categories. He finally taught me how to cheat the darn thing.

A warning, though, it is very hard to switch between players, and wii (og stop me!) haven’t been able to figure out how to play multiplayer..

You could turn tricks. I don’t know if it’s illegal if you get paid in Wii games. Something to look into.

NowInStock.net is how I got mine. It lists who has them in stock online in real time. Got my alert that Amazon had them and made off with one lickety-split. As I type, NewEgg is listed as having consoles available. NowInStock also has a tracker for the WiiFit too. Get to it!!!!

(For the love of GOD, don’t buy from those hijackers on eBay. No one needs to pay twice the retail price — a little patience will save you some major cash.)

We picked up a Wii two weekends ago, and I lucked out finding a magic window (on release day) where BestBuy.com allowed online ordering of Wii Fit — it just arrived today!

The release of Wii Fit most likely caused a flurry of Wii sales; that’s what prompted us to buy it now! (Well, my husband knew he could get me on board with the release of Wii Fit!)

Just keep checking the major retailers online (in store would be a pain). I heard a rumor that Toys R Us seems to have things in stock when others are out, but I don’t really have anything to back that up …

    Good luck!

  18. Sleeping Mommy

We had to get ours at a pawn shop after christmas. Good luck.

To hell with the Wii, I want the small thighs and the couch with no dust bunnies under it.

We left one sitting on the shelf in Target the other day. We want one but I am mildly opposed. I’m not quite ready to let my children descend into video game oblivion…i was so addicted to my Intelevision (my mom passed up Atari and went for the next biggest thing…)but that was like 8th grade or something…

  21. carrie

I didn’t know they were still hard to find either.

    Santa brought us ours.

    Don’t be a hater.

I am with window – that chick is hot!

  23. Black Hockey Jesus

Just laughed out loud at 4:05 in the morning. Good stuff.

  24. megan

    yeah, good luck with that.

  25. Becky

    EBay!

  26. Jenn

Honeslty? I had no idea they were still so hard to get – I got one for the Hubs for Christmas, and he came home one day last week with Wii Fit, (because I said I wanted it).

OMFG – I am actually quite sore from Wii Fit – it’s a blast, but much harder than it looks! (but the ski jumping rocks my world!)

Anyway, I wanted to wish you good luck in your search – I hope you find one soon, so we can chat about Fit games! 🙂

  27. joansy

Any luck? We pre-ordered the Fit from Amazon. For the wii, we bought one for winter solstice at a Game Zone. They had a waiting list and called when it was in. I refuse to drive around town wasting tons of gas and time and there’s no way in hell I’m going to Walmart, so I’m a big fan of the on-line ordering.

  28. Manisha

Keep asking at Sam’s Club. Go everday and check the sign in the games aisle. One day it will say “available” instead of “on order by management” and they will get only 22. Make sure you ask exactly when they start selling them because they will open up the store at midnight to sell those. We got ours in March at midnight this way.

  29. EatPlayLove

Try Target in Broomfield (the little one, not super target)… Saw them there recently!

Umm..and if you find it and buy it, will you invite me over to play, pretty please? They look soooo cool!

  30. g-man

I’m sure Heather told you the story of how (and when) we acquired ours. It was certainly a “grape-vine” (or blackberry) purchase. Someone from work saw them and sent a broadcast e-mail.

We love out wii and can’t wait for Rock Band to come out in June (the 22nd I believe)

  31. Erica Lynn

I just got an email this morning that circuit city.com has them in stock .. this is the link they included

    http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/widgetContent.do?oid=179571

    hope you find one!

I don’t know if you’re still looking for a Wii, but we were on this very same quest on the same day and are now proud owners of a wii, a wii fit, and mariokart with 2 steering wheels! Mission accomplished! I strongly recommend checking out wiialert.com. It’ll text you when certain online stores get them in stock. We just kinda lucked out and found mostly everything at walmart, but were planning on ordering off of wiialert.com. Just be quick – they sell out crazy fast!

  33. Lisa

My brother bought a wii, played it once and decided he didn’t like it. He’s been trying to sell it. If you don’t score one let me know if you’d like to buy his.
