Kickin’ Ass, Takin’ Names!
I’m so proud of my recent lab results I am gonna shout ’em from the rooftops, dammit!
First, the Hemoglobin A1C (HA1C) was 5.8 – which means technically non-diabetic. (Under 6 = non-diabetic, goal for diabetics is to be under 7… Type A personality strikes again!) Sure I had to use meds, exercise and diet to get to that 5.8, so of course I still have diabetes – but it also means that I am having essentially no negative effects on my body from the diabetes. I am usually in the 6 – 6.5 range… so how I was able to lower it these past 3 months when my ankle was still banged up and I wasn’t exercising that much is beyond me. Maybe it was the Diabetes Fairy. Who knows. I’ll take it.
Then, my total cholesterol was 140 – an all-time low for me. Usually I am around 170. Even better, my triglycerides dropped to 87 and tri-g’s have always been my weak spot. Thank god for folic acid. There was a time when I was regularly hitting well above 150 on those bad boys. And finally, my HDL/good cholesterol is at 52 (should be above 40) and my LDL/bad cholesterol was 71 (should be below 100).
And as a nice added bonus, my coronary risk ratio was 2.7 when the average for my age and sex is 3.4 – 4.3.
My doctor left me a really nice pat-on-the-back message, which was awesome too.
Rock on.
